The TWIN project has finally seen the first experimentation of the hosting module. The service has been active during the months of August and September 2021 at the Cisa Pass, in the municipality of Berceto, a strategic place where two slow lines of national importance converge, the Via Francigena and the Sentiero Italia CAI.

The accommodation is based on the idea of small high-mountain bivouacs, a small and hospitable place where the traveller can rest and at the same time enjoy the community dimension of being together.

The facility offers a stay that goes beyond the simple tourist experience: those who stay in the TWIN module decide to embrace solidarity, supporting a social inclusion project.

TWIN has set in motion a chain of solidarity involving the entire line: the structure is built by inmates employed in the carpentry workshop of the Monza prison, who are undergoing training to become reintegrated into society; the wood the module is made of comes from the areas affected by the Vaia Storm, an extreme weather event that between 26 and 30 October 2018 felled 16 million trees; lastly, fragile people work at the hosting module in a training project coordinated by the social services of the Municipality of Berceto in collaboration with the Berceto Nova community cooperative, which manages the hosting service.

You can make your contribution to the project by spending the night at the facility, on a slow journey to discover the hidden wonders of the Apennine mountains on the border between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany, a stone’s throw from the National Park of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.

Price per bed*

1 person: 25 € including linen or 20 € excluding linen

* Other persons may occupy the other beds available at the facility, up to a maximum of 4 persons.

Price for the entire facility**: 

• 1 person: 50 €
• 2 persons: 60 €
• each additional person: 15 € incl. linen or 10 € excl. linen

** Due to the current epidemiological situation, the entire facility can be reserved, preventing others from occupying the free beds.

Children up to 3 years free

Children from 4 years to 17 years: 50% discount on the cost per person/night

Please note. The number of beds available in the facility may be limited in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Government and/or the Emilia Romagna Region. Compliance with the guidelines will be guaranteed by the Cooperativa di comunità Berceto Nova, which is in charge of managing the service.

The great cultural challenge for a new way of rethinking mountain huts, especially those in the mid-mountains, remains that of making them territorial presidia, showcases for the places where they are located, social spaces for welcoming people, in order to create a dialogue between the history of the place and its geography, the natural environment and the built landscape, the genius loci and the elsewhere.
